Havergal College is one of Canada’s preeminent independent schools for girls from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Founded in 1894, the school is situated on a 22-acre campus in Toronto, Ontario, and focuses on the liberal arts, providing an all around education based on high academic standards, extensive co-curricular opportunities, and boarding for students in Grades 9 to 12.

Brief

The mission for Havergal’s Day 9 is to align the school’s values and mission through curated, co-created experiences with faculty and students. Day 9s are opportunities to deepen and extend our learning. For students in Grades 9 to 12, they had more than 30 experts in over 30 fields come into the school to workshop with our students. VR Vision was selected to demonstrate the power of Virtual Reality for education to students over a series of recurring activations.

Technology & Services

VR Vision provided three mobile HTC Vive stations as well as three educational hosts with additional management support. Applications deployed; Art – Tilt Brush, Math – Calc Flow, Geography – Google Earth, Music – Sound Stage, Chemistry – Nano One, Astronomy – Universe Sandbox as well as a variety of entertainment/gaming content for the last part of the event. The students were also supplied with forms where they were able to work on as a group to share their thoughts on the benefits, challenges & future application of VR for Education.

Result

Student response was overwhelmingly positive. They came away with a much deeper understanding of not just the capabilities of virtual reality for education but also having learned & experienced something new on several of the showcased applications. The VR Vision team has since been invited to host multiple Day 9 events and is scheduled for more in the future.
